Surviving Peak Summer in Northern India

During the intense summer months of May, June, and July, ambient temperatures across Delhi NCR and Ghaziabad routinely surpass 45°C. Concrete roads, dry storm drains, and lack of shaded green cover create severe heat islands where street animals and urban birds struggle to find potable water.

Clinical Symptoms of Severe Animal Heatstroke

  • Heavy, frantic panting with thick, ropey saliva.
  • Disorientation, stumbling gait, or collapse on hot asphalt.
  • Bright red or pale dry gums indicating circulatory shock.

The PashuRescue Community Hydration Network

Ashjyoti Foundation coordinates the distribution of durable cement water bowls across residential colonies, markets, and gaushalas in East Delhi, Noida, and Ghaziabad.

Volunteer Action Steps:

  1. Place clean water bowls in shaded spots away from vehicular traffic.
  2. Clean and refill bowls daily to prevent mosquito breeding.
  3. Add electrolytes or glucose to water during peak afternoon heatwaves.
